Why are contracts under $250,000 so much easier to win?
Effective October 1, 2025 (FAR 2.101), the federal statutory Simplified Acquisition Threshold (SAT) is $350,000 and the micro-purchase threshold is $15,000. Under FAR 13.003 and FAR 19.502-2, federal acquisitions between the micro-purchase threshold and SAT are automatically reserved for small businesses under the statutory "Rule of Two" (when there is a reasonable expectation of obtaining competitive offers from two or more responsible small businesses at fair market prices).
